Statement on Recall of 2018 Mazda3 Exhaust Valve Spring Concern
Mazda North American Operations filed a Part 573 with NHTSA regarding a safety concern with certain Model Year 2018 Mazda3 vehicles.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (November 28, 2017) – Mazda North American Operations filed a Part 573 with NHTSA regarding a safety concern with certain Model Year 2018 Mazda3 vehicles. In certain vehicles, an incorrect exhaust valve spring may have been installed in the cylinder head of the engine. Continuous use in this condition may lead to abnormal noise, vibration and MIL-illumination. In the worst case, the exhaust valve spring may break, resulting in engine stall and the vehicle cannot be restarted.

Approximately 144 vehicles are affected.

There have been no reports of loss of control, accidents, or injuries related to this condition.
