Statement on Recall of Certain 2018 Mazda CX-5 Vehicles
Side Curtain Air Bag May Not Unfold Properly

WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 22, 2018) – Mazda North American Operations filed a Part 573 with NHTSA regarding a safety concern with certain Model Year 2018 Mazda CX-5 vehicles. Due to an inappropriate manufacturing process during the production of certain curtain air bags, the air bags may not unfold properly during deployment. This may result in an increased risk of injury to a passenger in a crash where the curtain air bag deploys during a rollover event.

Approximately 682 vehicles are affected.

There have been no reports of accidents or injuries.
