STATEMENT ON SAFETY RECALL 6724E
Sudden Braking on Certain 2024MY CX-90 Vehicles

WASHINGTON, DC. (May 24, 2024) – Mazda North American Operations (MNAO), on behalf of Mazda Motor Corporation, has filed a safety defect notification with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for a concern which exists on certain 2024MY CX-90 vehicles.

While driving, the brakes may activate suddenly due to the false detection of certain objects at low speed (10-15 mph). The automatic braking system may falsely detect a vehicle’s reflection as an approaching object (such as a diagonal metal wall or similar object on the side of the road) due to improper programming of the Vehicle Control Module (VCM). In this condition, unintentional/sudden braking may occur. Although the brake lights will illuminate, this may increase the risk of a rear-end accident. There is no warning prior to the sudden increase in braking.

There have been no reports of any accidents or injuries due to the defect.

Approximately 9,914 2024MY CX-90 vehicles are affected in the U.S. and U.S. Territories.

Affected owners will be notified by U.S. Mail. Please check mazdarecallinfo.com or nhtsa.gov for the latest updates.
