Mazda Issues DO NOT DRIVE Advisory for Remaining Open Takata Frontal Air Bag Recalls; Urges Drivers to Contact Dealerships Immediately

WASHINGTON, DC. (August 13, 2024) – Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) is issuing a "DO NOT DRIVE" advisory to customers who have not yet had their vehicles repaired under six past safety recalls (1317F, 1417G, 1817L, 1917L, 2118A, and 2618F). These previously announced recalls involve multiple vehicles equipped with Takata non-desiccated air bag inflators. This urgent measure further encourages owners to get their vehicles repaired immediately, as the faulty inflators pose a serious safety risk.

Approximately 83,000 vehicles are impacted in the United States and its territories. The age of these vehicles, some over 20 years old, makes it increasingly possible that air bag inflators will explode and cause sharp metal fragments to strike the driver or passengers resulting in serious injury or death. The DO NOT DRIVE impacts all customers that have not completed 1317F, 1417G, 1817L, 1917L, 2118A, and 2618F. This includes driver and passenger air bag inflators in the following models and model years (MY): 2004-2006MY B-series, 2003-2008MY Mazda6, 2006-2007MY Mazdaspeed6, and 2004-2008MY RX8 vehicles. Also included are passenger air bag inflators in the following models and model years (MY): 2007-2009MY B-Series, 2007-2012MY CX-7, 2007-2015MY CX-9, 2009-2013MY Mazda6, 2004-2006MY MPV, and 2009-2011MY RX8 vehicles.

Parts are available now. Repairs can be done through mobile repair service at participating Mazda dealerships or Mazda dealers will tow vehicles directly to the dealership for a permanent repair that will resolve the safety risk. They will also provide a free interim loaner vehicle, if necessary.

Mazda will continue notifying known owners of these vehicles every month through a variety of communication channels with the updated DO NOT DRIVE advisory message. To see if your vehicle is involved in a safety recall visit www.mazdarecallinfo.com or nhtsa.gov/recalls.
