Mazda Finishes Second at Road Atlanta

Quotes from Mazda Motorsports

Nelson Cosgrove
Director, Mazda Motorsports

“After a fierce six hours of racing, we can be proud of our team at Mazda Motorsports. The No. 55 car showed our true challenger spirit and made a charge through the field with a strong second-place finish. The speed shown by the No. 77 was amazing, but it was sadly derailed by mechanical problems. I cannot wait to return to Road Atlanta in a few weeks and fight for a win.”

“Today was a hard-fought second place. Harry and Ryan did a great job and we persevered through a tough first half of the race to finish second. I’m gutted for the No. 77 as they had control of the race before their issue. We’ll use this good result to keep pushing us forward as we prepare for the next race at Mid Ohio!”

Harry Tincknell

“It was great to have Ryan back with us. All three drivers’ fastest laps were nearly identical. Our strategy was solid with the last driver change coming early, which allowed us to jump four positions and hunt down the leader. We were closing down on Castroneves in the final laps, but we were unlucky with traffic. We’re happy with a second-place finish, considering we beat everyone ahead of us in the championship.”

Ryan Hunter-Reay

“It was a solid day for the No. 55 with crucial championship points earned. The guys over the wall did a fantastic job. We had a few issues to address on the first stop, but then battled our way to the front. I’m looking forward to returning to Road Atlanta and working with this group again next month.”
